Why Solar Power?
... (cont.) Additionally the burning of oil and coal
pollutes the air and contributes to the alarming trend
of increased global warming (not to mention the more
immediate effects of asthma and chronic illness).
Preserves Fossil Fuels Finally, fossil fuels are
finite. We cannot continue to fund our increasingly
energy-intensive lifestyles with current fuel sources. The gas used to power your car? The oil and gas used
to heat your home? There's only so much of it buried
deep beneath the earth, and we are rapidly draining
that supply. There will come a time - whether 25, 50,
or 100 years from now - when we will have to turn to
other sources of energy to sustain our civilizations.
Sustainability is the key - if the lesson of fossil
fuels teaches us anything, it is that we must learn to
live in a balanced environment, where the harvesting
and utilization of fuel is not a degenerative act of
consumption, but a proactive source of production.
