Our Progress: October 10, 2005
The first round of scores have come in, with UT SolarD starting in 5th place out of a total 18 competitors. We took fourth overall in the Architecture competition, and third in the Dwelling competition. We currently have point standings the Comfort Zone, Appliances, and Lighting competitions, but these scores are dynamic and change day to day based on measurements taken inside the house at 15 minute intervals. At the moment we are fifth in Comfort Zone, eleventh in Appliances, and seventh in Lighting. Again, these scores will continue to change as the weather changes, so keep checking back. These contests also have juried components, meaning that we will give presentations. These presentations count for additional points, so we could drastically increase our rankings soon. We have been unable to run a variety of mechanical and lighting systems because we are so low on our power reserves. Nearly all the schools are in the same boat as us - 5 days without sun does not help us generate electricity! The forecast claims that we'll have sunny skies by Wednesday, but the competition ends Friday afternoon...
